***Millie was in, though of course later she became Sam's girlfriend on Mayberry RFD. I always wondered how Howard dealt with that, but I don't remember anything being said about it. Has anyone else seen where this was discussed??*** I heard Howard mention it in one of the earliest "Mayberry RFD" episodes. He didn't go into detail on who broke up with who or whether it was mutual or if any issue came up, just that "it worked out better with Sam" and he was okay with it and happy for them. That says a lot about Howard, because I don't think I could have handled it that well, seeing an ex girlfriend constantly holding hands with one of my best friends who hangs out with me on a regular basis. I'm surprised they never married off Howard, on either show. I've mentioned recently (along with a few others) that it would have been fun to see Goober date more often as well. But romantic storylines apparently weren't as big in the 1960s as they are in the post-"Cheers" era.
