I agree with Ken Anderson about Goober. He was a good soul who just couldn't get lucky with a good woman. I remember an episode of Mayberry RFD where Sam, Howard and others were picking a new deacon for church. They chose Goober even though a couple of the men thought he might not be "quite right" because I guess his lack of education. But Sam defended him by saying what an active member of the church he was, taught Sunday School class for the teenagers, and so forth. That is truly a value so many people miss!
