***The wonderful thing about the people of Mayberry was that they accepted
Goober for who he was. He was a hard worker who took a great deal of pride
in his work. They didn't care about his education or his double breasted
suit with the out of style tie. Goober was Goober. ***

I have to agree, one of the biggest strengths of the town (and the show) was
lack of judgmentalism. With a few exceptions, everyone seemed to accept
everyone for who they were. Even Barney could unfuriate everyone sooner or
later but no one in town would ever tolerate seeing him hurt. Sure, everyone
gossiped about each other's business and expressed surprise from time to time
but you never saw anyone look down on anyone based on their station in life,
interests, etc.

The few exceptions tend to be out-of-towners like Ed Sawyer and the new doctor,
both of which were special circumstances. Even that incident involving the
newspaper photo of Helen Crump, involved something that happened out of state,
and everyone readily accepted Andy's explanation.
