Dale, I share your feelings about this photo. I have spent a lot of time just looking at it and "walking down" Main St. in Mayberry. For me, it kind of makes Mayberry a reality. If anyone hasn't seen this photo or would like to, Joel Rasmussen sells a really nice annotated copy along with some other cool Mayberry stuff on his website at http://www.angelfire.com/biz/Mayberry/ And Dale, I've been to the location where 40 Acres was. It is of course been replaced by office buildings but most of the surrounding buildings that were there in the 60's and visible in the photo are still there. I have stood in the place where the Courthouse once was--What a thrill!
