>From the "What Would Barney Do" Files comes the following report:
Eighty-two year old Mayvis Coyle began shuffling across Foothill Blvd. with her
cane when the light was green, but she was unable to make it to the other side
before the light turned red.
A motorcycle officer who ticketed her said she was obstructing traffic and
causing
a danger to others.
Coyle said, "I think it's completely outrageous... like I don't know what I'm
doing."
Officer Zaboski said police are cracking down on people who improperly cross
streets because pedestrian accidents are above normal and he ticketed the
elderly
woman $114.00. That'll teach her.
.................................................................................................
Some officers have speculated that if you give them an inch today, tomorrow they
will take a foot; give them a foot tomorrow, and the next day they will want a
yard; when will it ever end? And if you let an 82 year old woman off today,
tomorrow a 76 year old man will want to be let off; let a 76 year old man off
tomorrow and the next day some punk kid will be jay walking; when will it end?
So, the Officer Zaboski was right. Just because Mrs. Coyle is 82 years old and
using a cane is no excuse. He just thought, "What would Barney do?" and he
knew exactly what Barney did with Emma. No mercy.

Lydia, "Where are those Boy Scouts when you need them?"
