Well, that makes sense, Paul. I really never considered that. The fact that they continued to bring him on as a guest star from time to time throughout the remainder of the series would seem to indicate that they were "keeping the door open" in case Don should decide to return. That makes me feel a little better about that lack of a farewell episode, though it certainly would have been preferable, in retrospect, to have done one.
