Now that springtime has officially kicked in, it's kind of bittersweet to think of the song 'Welcome Sweet Springtime' without Barney amongst us. Of course, when 'Barney and the Choir' originally aired on February 19, 1962, most of the U.S. was freezing save for southern California. Barney reminisced about good old 14-A in 'Return to Mayberry' which aired in April 1986, but when they filmed that porch scene in Los Olivos, CA , it was February or March. Mayberrians really weren't feeling the brunt of winter at Culver City in 1962 or Los Olivos in 1986. It was probably balmy. As I look up into the clear, blue sky, I can almost hear Barn's voice. If I heard Delos Jewkes' booming bass voice, that would really knock me flat. That could pass for the Almighty's voice in film. He could "sing a lick."
