Why did Barney cheat on Thelma Lou? Since he said he loved her and she clearly would have married him if he had asked her, we don't have a real good answer to that question because in every other area of his life Barney was a honest person.
See, we (me and Laura Lee) have a problem with cheating. To us, next to murder or harming a child, it is just about the worst thing one person can do to another because no matter what the guilty party claims, there is always an element of premeditation involved and for sure there is a lot of lying going on. No one cheats without being a liar, and if you ask most people the one characteristic they most despise, they will tell you it is lying. And yet today's society has gotten to the point of glamorizing cheating. It's suppose to be exciting, with someone "beautiful," who will make you feel "alive." Nonsense. It usually comes back to haunt you and to cause pain to the innocent ones. And like Barney, it ended up costing both him and Thelma Lou years of real happiness. TAGS always showed Barney and Juanita's fling as a sort of minor thing--we never even saw Juanita--and we always laughed at his antics with her over the phone. But it ended up costing him a relationship with Thelma Lou. And that was a mighty high price to pay. Sorry to get all serious here, but occasionally even Dime Store clerks have have their moments.
