It was a wonderful Valentine's Day in the quiet township of Mayberry this year. But that doesn't mean that the sentimental folk who live there didn't enjoy this very special day. Our dear friends Barney and Thelma Lou spent the evening down at the duck pond and then went to Thelma Lou's house where they enjoyed watching a doctor program while eating homemade cashew fudge. Over at the Taylor's, Andy and Helen went to Morrelli's for a pounded steak AlaMorrelli, where they also enjoyed the beautiful music by the wandering gypsy minstrel. Aunt Bee and Fred Goss enjoyed a double feature at the movies and then stopped off at the Mayberry Diner for chocolate sodas. Even Opie got into the act by walking over to Karen's house where he presented her with a brand new jigsaw puzzle. Howard Sprague took his mother to Mount Pilot for a quiet dinner and then they returned home for a few hours of dominoes. Goober and Gomer double dated with our friends Skippy and Daphne and enjoyed an exciting evening of dancing at the Kit Kat Club. Valentine's Day in Mayberry would not be complete unless Ernest T and Romana did something very special. So Ernest T shaved the back of his neck, took a bath, and then escorted Romana over to Howard's house where they enjoyed looking at Howard's geological rock collection. Mrs/ Sprague offered refreshments, but Ernest T refused any coffee, tea, or punch. Unbeknownst to Howard, Ernest T left with a few more rocks than when he arrived. Finally there was Otis. Naturally he celebrated all by himself. After all, what kind of Valentine's Day would it be if he spent it with his wife.
All in all, it was a wonderful day for those very kindhearted souls who we all love so dearly. I only hope that yours was equally as nice. Kenneth G.
