Randy was close on this....Everett Sloane wrote the LYRICS to the theme song. Earle Hagen wrote the theme song (music) itself. I just wanted to clear that up before anybody got worried.
By the way Everett Sloane is best known in Mayberry as "Jubal Foster" (the farmer who burned down his own barn and then blamed Opie and his friends).
