Dear Friends,

We have long discussed how in an effort to keep from hurting another's feelings,
the good people of TAGS would often resort to a little white lie to soften the
blow;
but then the lwl (little white lie) would blow up in their faces and cause more
trouble than just telling the honest truth would have done in the first place.
Examples being the Pickle Story, Dinner at Eight, Aunt Bee's various love
interests
in the dry cleaner/egg and butter man, etc.
But these good and intelligent people never learned. And we don't either.
It's like Gomer said. People are odd.
No real conclusion to my observation; just a point that we all know and love
about this show: the harder you try to please someone, often the harder you
make life on yourself. But does this mean we should stop looking out for the
other person's feelings, just to protect ourselves? I don't think so. Life is
already hurtful enough without us being careless with other people's feelings.

This is the real beauty of Mayberry. No one ever wanted to
cause another person pain. And that is the reason it is so relaxing to visit it
again
and again.
Well, it's Saturday and Bobby Fleet and his Band with a Beat is coming tonight
and
me and Laura Lee Hobbs will be right there in the middle with those slumped over
teenage boys looking for a good time.
My guess is we'll find it.
Lydia, I don't bowl, I don't do card games, but I can keep the beat with the
best of 'em
