... where was the opening title sequence filmed? The title sequence was filmed at the Franklin Reservoir in the Coldwater Canyon area of Los Angeles. It is now called the William O. Douglas Outdoor Classroom.
Directions from Beverly Hills: - Go north on Beverly Drive until North Beverly Drive forks off to the left (Coldwater Canyon Drive continues on straight). - Continue north on N. Beverly until you get to Franklin Canyon Drive on the right. - Turn right on Franklin Canyon Drive and continue until you see the William O. Douglas Outdoor Classroom sign, the lake in front of you, and the dam on your left. - Drive around the east side of the lake, past a small "water treatment ???" facility, and look for a small parking area on your left. - From the parking area, walk down the steps, and your on THE path. I've visited the site a few times while in LA. The lake is dry on that end with trees and brush filling it now. I went onto the lake floor a picked up a rock to take home. Who knows, it may have been thrown by Opie. Your imagination WILL take you to Mayberry!
