During my time off, I was privileged to catch two TAGS episodes daily. In one
show, it was probably either the Miss Mayberry Contest or the Hollywood Movie
episode, I noticed Mayor Pike wearing a stripped necktie instead of his usual
bow tie. It caused me to wonder if this was the same tie that was hanging in
Barney's closet. I could only conclude that the Mayor gave it to Barney when
he retired from public office. I'm sure he no longer intended to dress up,
except on Sunday and one bow tie would suffice.
I'm sure others have commented on this before me, but I also noticed his
beautious, tempestuous 3rd daughter (called Juanita in the Hollywood episode)
was the same actress who later portrayed Lydia. Talk about a small town, some
people had to belong to two families to make sure there was enough to go around.
