Have you ever wondered how some of the folks in Mayberry celebrated New Year's Eve. Well, I happen to looked into my crystal ball and this is what I saw:
Barney and Thelma Lou eating cashew fudge and listening to Cole Porter music. Aunt Bee and Clara Edwards eating rum cake with Colonel Harvey's Elixir and then playing a piano duet. Gomer and Mary Grace dancing in the New Year in Thelma Lou's parlor. Andy and Helen going out for a spaghetti dinner at Morelli's. Howard and his mother staying home and playing monopoly and drinking root beer. (no cards) Ernest T. Bass and Romana running through Mayberry jumping over fire plugs and hedges. Sara and Juanita getting together to play charades, because neither one of them ever speaks. Goober eating meatloaf at the diner and then watching the movie "The Monster that Ate Minnesota". Otis Campbell riding his cow around town singing Dipsy Doodle. The Darlings feasting on Hoot Owl Pie with music to follow. Ben Weaver spending the evening sitting at his kitchen table counting his year's profits. Opie and Leon having a sleepover on ironing boards and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Floyd working on his 2006 questionnaire for www.eharmony.com. As for my wife and me. Why we went out for pizza with friends from our church and then went to their house for an evening of dominoes and left over Christmas goodies. How doesn't that sound like a Mayberry evening.
