Mayberry Days will be here before we know it, so I'd like to remind or
introduce everyone to our annual community service project that
benefits the Surry Arts Council - the WBMUTBB Silent Auction, held
during the festival on Saturday, September 24th from 10:00 am - Noon in
front of the Andy Griffith Playhouse.
There are so many talented and generous people who are members of
WBMUTBB and many of you have supported this project for many years and
I hope more of you will take part this year. Auction donations are
primarily unique hand crafted Mayberry items or memorabilia, providing
the opportunity to get something that no one else has.
It is a great way to meet and visit with friends during the festival
while the bidding is going on. The auction starts right after the
parade, so we need a few extra people to help set up and then again
when the bidding finishes and payments are made. In between, we need
people to be there to help the bidders and answer questions. It is
always nice to get new members involved, so if you can share some time,
you'll get to meet some great people while helping out.
If you would like to donate something for the auction, it is considered
a tax deductible contribution to a nonprofit organization, so you get a
benefit as well. All things Mayberry are welcome and we've had some
fantastic donations through the years - quilts, picnic items, art work,
embroidered items, guitars - things large and small in all price ranges.
I appreciate those of you who have already contacted me about donations
and offers to help. If you are interested in donating an item or your
time, or just want additional information, please email me at

Well, I guess there were more chances to break at sweat in Mayberry than I
had recalled. But, anytime it does get a little too warm I just head over
to Wally's for a cool bottle of pop. Floyd recommends the Nectarine Crush.

Hey Marie,
Ain't no call to get all he't up about it. Go down to the diner and get
yourself some lunch and you'll feel better.
Have the businessman's special - a hollowed out tomato stuffed with
avocado and raisins. Top it off with a lemon phosphate and you're right
in business.

I know that there have been quite a few of the dishes on ebay. It seems there
is always something there. Also not to long ago someone posted a site where
you could buy new ones. Heck, you may even want to check Weaver's, he has it
all.

Opie was "all dirty and perspiry" according to Aunt Bee after he had been
playing "Run, Sheep, Run" with his friends in the episode where Malcolm
Merriweather comes back to town and takes over Aunt Bee's duties. I guess a
refined lady like Aunt Bee would not use such a low-brow word as "sweaty".

I've often wondered what the G & G Garage in Mayberry would look like today.
Remember, we saw that Gomer and Goober went into business together in 1986's
T.V. movie 'Return to Mayberry.'
You'd probably see an ATM in there today. You could buy more than a
nectarine crush to drink, although that particular flavor is a rarity anywhere.
The
'Mayberry Gazette' would be available there right beside the 'USA Today.' I
would venture to say that you could pay at the pump with your credit or debit
card as well. The BIG thing would be that the restrooms would probably be a
lot cleaner than most gas stations in the U.S.

Hey to all, Just picked up the latest Reader's Digest and saw the extended
article on Mt. Airy. It's a great piece about folks being attracted to a
"Mayberry" lifestyle. Russell Hiatt's picture is featured. For everyone who
has been there, it's especially interesting. Mark from Missouri
