I mentioned the historic elements because theoretically, they could've been
filmed as flashbacks but never were. Remember, the sister show to TAGS, "The
Dick Van Dyke Show," had several classic episodes that were flashbacks taking
place pre-October 1961, like Rob meeting Laura, Rob and Laura getting married,
Rob as a DJ, and getting hired on "The Alan Brady Show," Ritchie's birth, etc.
Likewise, they could've had a great episode where, for instance, we see
Barney get hired at the sheriff's department or we see Barney and Thelma Lou on
their first date.
But I digress, this is your challenge so we should follow your rules. Unseen
scenes that were contemporary with the show's current day setting.
Come to think of it, we never did see Barney go down to the filling station,
get a bottle of pop, then head over to Thelma Lou's for a little TV.

I don't think Barney ever left for the FBI, did he? He just joined the
Raleigh Police Department and was in fingerprints but later became a
detective and was able to keep his jobs, thanks to Andy's help of course.
Also, didn't Don Knotts have a variety show for a while after leaving TAGS?
If I remember right, he did, but it did not last long at all. He just could
not shed the image of Barney Fife. Correct me if I am wrong on this, but
this does seem to ring a bell back in my memory bank somewhere. I am like
Barney in the Spoiled Kid episode. I too have a "photographic memory". But
in my case I just don't ever have any film.

Found a new hardbound edition of "Mayberry Memories" at Sam's Club this weekend
for $9.99. It lists for $34.99. What a deal! It's an excellent scrapbook of
behind the scenes shots and stories.

Our church has just started a 3 episode Mayberry bible study. A different
minister will do each episode. Last night, our Minister of Education did
Rafe Hollister Sings. We were going to have watermelon in the fellowship
hall afterwards so we were just going to have it there. Would you believe
standing room only? Tell me Andy ain't still popular. So next week, we'll
have it in the sanctuary.
Speaking of next week, of Minister of Music is doing The Pickle Story. It
has already been announced that we're going to have a pickle eatin' contest
afterwards. Our Minister of Youth is doing The Lucky Letter on the 3rd
week.

You should be able to get a good look at the jail keys in the episode with
Cousin Virgil. At one point he holds them up to show them to Barney. This was
a very good shot of the jail keys, among others....

Just returned from the Squad Car Nationals in Alabama. We drove alot of miles
from Ohio, we got sick as a dog, but had the time of our lives. Want to thank
Ken Junkin and all the nice people of Graysville. I know it was alot of hard
work and prep time and it showed how much effort was put into it. Congrats
to Jan Newsome for the best overall. (I think Goober taught her to drive.) It
was fun to watch the participants add a little bit of Mayberry to the event. I
think Barney taught them well on the still smashing event, and the Robert E.
Lee bridge looked just a little shaky. Thanks to all who took part it was a fun
event to watch.
Also enjoyed the Sullivan band, they put on a very good show, for sure talent
must run in the family. (Kind of like the Darlings) Also great skits from our
ever entertaining tribute artists, I always enjoy them so much. We of course
had to get our Squad Car shirts, they were great as always. We looked real
spiffy. (I think Ken may have some left if your interested.) Again thanks to
all the folks who work so hard on the Mayberry events so that we fans can go
and
enjoy ourselves and for just a little while visit Mayberry. We "preciate" it
and goodnight. Diane

I conferred with Otis and we agree that the drinkin' hobby sounds like
more fun than growing mushrooms in the basement for fun and profit. Even
more fun than that machine that shreds up old tires for various
decorative items.

"In the faraway shots his hair was neat, but in the close-ups, his hair was

My theory is that it was a phenomenon caused by Floyd's hair tonic. You muss
your hair, but from a distance it looks straight.
Some unseen scenes that I'd have liked to have seen were Helen beating Andy at
bowling, and Opie and Cynthia jumping that oil pit. I wouldn't have cared to
watch the collie and chow fights though. That was a case of dogs not taking
care of their own.

Umm, Barney went to Raleigh, where he spent a time in a certain section
of the fingerprint files as a clerk and then made a detective in charge
of fetching coffee. That changed a little bit after his successful
Summit Meeting performance and (with Andy's help) when he blew open the
whole supermarket burglary caper.
When that squirt Barney was meeting Melissa Steven's daddy (husband) he
did mention that he was going to maybe check out that FBI and give old
J. Edgar a call. Funny that he knew the head of the FBI on a first name
basis, huh.
