I was watching TAGS yesterday and saw the episode where Opie joins a band. I
like to check out the guest stars as sometimes they have gone on to more
illustrious careers.
I checked imdb.com but the listing was incomplete.
Does anyone know who played Clifford, the bandleader?
Thanks,
Gretchen

I saw the Contry Comedy show again on CMT and got to see the first part that
I'd missed before. It seems like a lot of folks would have made great guest
stars on TAGS. I can picture the Hee Haw gang, Ernie Ford and the Statler
Brothers stopping by for a visit. In fact I see a lot of similarities between
the Darlings and Lester Hogg and the Cadillac Cowboys.
I like the Mayberry e-mail addresses and could guess a lot of them, but some
I'm unsure of.

Well I think we are finally elevating Hazel to the "mystery" status she
deserves, some where just a few notches under Mr. Schwamp.
We don't know the actresses name. According to The Definitive Andy
Griffith Show Reference by Dale Robinson and David Fernandes, TV Guide
(Feb 16-23, 1962)actually listed the choir members, even though they
were uncredited (Episode 52 Barney and the Choir). There are four
female names..and there are 4 choir members besides Thelma Lou, Aunt Bee
and Hazel. They are Rene Aubry (verified in IMDB) Jeanne Determan,
Beatrice Fisch, and Marjorie McKay. The book mentions Hazel as the
pianist--but does not list the actress. It also mentions her in the
episode "The Song Festers"
I've got a new conspiracy theory. Are you ready for this? This is
especially for those of you who bought into my previous theories that a)
Mr. Schwamp is a Root Beer guzzler and b) That Mr. Schwamp's occupation
is that he runs the local funeral home.
Hazel's main job is that she plays piano and organ at the Schwamp
Funeral home. That's why she is such a quiet lady. She is used to just
being heard musically, but not orally. That trait is also blamed fore
her being edged out by Clara Edwards as the Church Organist. (Clara is
such a self-promoter you know.)
Want another mystery??? Why was Thelma Lou kicked out of the choir
between Barney and the Choir and The Song Festers?? How did Barney get
back in after he received that payment that Andy said made him
ineligible? And the case we're still working on..Why was Thelma Lou
never in Church??
What's a matter? Haven't you ever seen good detective work before?

In watching the color episode #220 - Opie's First Love, Opie love is lost when
Mary Alice Carter (Suzanne Cupito/Morgan Brittany) prefers Fred Simpson over
Opie Taylor (Junior). His love is "unlost" after so cool Fred ignores M.A.C.
and our hero, the stag Opie Taylor, teams with M.A.C. to join his dad and
teacher (and date) following the Arnold Bailey party. The street where dad
picks up son in front of the Bailey household, is wet. I'm not implying that
it rained (some doctor's sprinklers don't just cover the lawn, they water tree
stumps, sidewalks and streets) and rain isn't mentioned, but just something
I...noticed.
Interesting factoid:
M.A.C. (Morgany Brittany - who, by the way was married to Jon Lovitz, so he
says) was about 16 at the time (12/5/1951).
Opie Taylor was about 13 at the time (3/1/1954). As we know, this wasn't the
first time Opie dated women older than him. Just this time, the age gap wasn't
as wide as when he dated Thelma Lou and Ellie Walker...

I believe it rained the night Andy delivered the baby for Sam and his wife.
I also think it rained at the end of the gypsy episode when they said it
wouldn't rain because there was a curse on the town. Well, maybe it didn't
show the rain, but it was at least forecast. And I believe a nice rainstorm
was starting in the Dogs, Dogs, Dogs episode. If it hadn't started quite
raining yet, it was certainly thundering and lightning. I never have gotten
over the selfishness of those mean, mean giraffes! :) Lisa

I just noticed in watching Aunt Bee on the jury that several of the other
jurors were familiar: Helen's uncle, one of the Mr. Weaver's and the young man
who punched Floyd in the arm after Howard's appearance on TV. The witness was
the same man (I think) who was applying for a marriage license with Howard and
got into a tiff with the bride-to-be and he also was a townsperson on the movie
set of Sheriff Without a Gun. Then of course Jack Nicholson after he and his
wife abandoned their baby. Never picked up on this before; I guess you
"trained noticers" have got me inspired!

***Wasn't it raining in Mayberry the day the Gold Truck came through? . Also,
the
day Barney took all the dogs out in the country & dropped them off. Then there
was the show with the gypsys, where there had been a drought, and rain finally
came.***
It seems like rain figured somehow in the cattle thief episode, because there
was mud on the farm and that's apparently how the footprints were formed. And
didn't Opie's Boy Scout campout get rained out in that classic "spaghetti"
episode ("Dinner at Eight")?

actors/characters you can see fitting in in Mayberry?***
I always felt Tim Conway would've been a perfect replacement for Barney, but it
might have been even funnier to team him up with Don Knotts even earlier than
that. I'm sure his role on "McHale's Navy" (on ABC at the time) would've
prevented that.
Others:
Madge Blake (Leave It to Beaver, Batman)
Donna Douglas (The Beverly Hillbillies)
Hank Patterson (Gunsmoke, Green Acres)
Come to think of it, Ken Curtis of Gunsmoke
Don Knotts' old Steve Allen buddies, Tom Poston and Louis Nye (RIP Louis)
He probably would've never done it, but Elvis

it rained the other home's Basement filled up with water and the crack in
Andy's Kitchen ceiling would leak and that happend just before the big deal
fell through for Barney....

One name that sums up what's good and true about Mayberry is none other
than: Erma Bishop.
Her dedication and selflessness in staging a successful Founders Day pageant
is noteworthy and inspiring. Miss Bishop has the true spirit of Mayberry in
her and she above all others, deserves the adornments and title of "Miss
Mayberry".
Andy made the right choice, Miss Ellie thought so too. (And so do I.)

Im not much of a trained noticer but I was watching a film about Lottie Moon (a

played by the Little Old Lady that clanked while she was shoplifting.

Hey Folks,
Answer's to questions like this can be found on the Mayberry.com web
site. The place to look for this on is in the "Cast Member/Episode
Database" (
http://mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/anewsome/private/searchcastfile.htm
) found right on the front page of the site. You can search for any
character name, actor name, episode title, episode number, or any part
thereof and find out the answer to your question.
Enjoy!!!

Hi there Mayberry folks. Bob Castrucci wondered where he got the wood
Mayberry courthouse. That was from me; I made quite a few of them last spring.
Since then I have completed Wally's gas station, but haven't had a chance to
make
more than one. I'll be glad to send a photo of it to anybody who wants to
see it. What I have been working on this summer is a Mayberry Christmas village
scene to go under our tree. It has the entire city block: the courthouse,
Floyds and the grocery store, the hotel and the theater. I made this one to be
lighted (with mini Christmas tree lights). Needless to say, it has taken a
long time to build, since I just worked on it in the evenings. It is pretty
much
finished, and I will send a photo of it to anybody who wants to see it.
Maybe this winter I can get enough time to make more of these buildings for
those
who want one. All of yall have a great Mayberry Halloween and Thanksgiving!

OK, get out the net noodle and lash me with it. It was Barbara Griffith, not
Hazel Griffith (really Hazel Hall the piano player), I was remembering
yesterday. Barbara, of course, was Andy's real life wife and she had
the line, "I'm sorry, Mr. Masters."
When I was younger and a noticer of the credits, I had assumed (this was before
we had cable) that Barbara Griffith could have been the actress playing Hazel,
because
Hazel looked so real to me that I thought she may have been
a kin folk of Andy's and he just used her in the show, changed her first name
to Hazel, and the credits listed her
real name as Barbara Griffith. I didn't know about the rule that if an actor
didn't have a line, her name would not have been in the credits, so I was
looking for someone who played "Hazel." In those days, I knew next to nothing
about Andy's private life and I reasoned (I'm a
trained reasoner too) that Barbara Griffith could have been
playing the part of "Hazel." Of course, I had it all wrong, but
not too bad for a kid trained noticer/reasoner. Barbara Griffith Was his Wife,
of course. I just figured out the wrong girl, wrong relation
That's all.
But at least I had Howard Morris and Ms. Tuttle figured out
all along.
Question: When they use Howard Morris' voice on the radio, they don't list him
in the credits. Is he paid anyway? I assume so.
