I am sorry to hear that Jean Carson passed away. She is in a much
better place, which is her reward. It is definitely our loss, but I
saw an episode just last night with the Fun Girls. I have a question
that all of you experts may answer for me. What is the other fun
girls name that played Daphney? Is she still living? I look forward
to reading the next digest for the answer.

By the way, I failed to put on my last post how long I've been a member of
WBMUTBB? I don't recall exactly and can't check it, since I've changed my
e-mail address a few times since I first joined! But it's been at least 3 1/2
years, maybe longer. I have truly enjoyed reading the posts others have sent
in, and I appreciate the privilege of being part of the online Mayberry
community. I've "met" some very nice folks here. Allan performs a wonderful
service for all of us TAGS fans, and I'm so glad that he keeps WBMUTBB? a
friendly and welcoming place to be on the Internet.

I'm married and have two children. A daughter in high school and a son
in the US Marine Corps who just returned safely from Iraq. (hence the
marinemom name in my email address)Needless to say, my husband and I are
very proud of our son's decision to serve our country and welcome any
prayers for his and his fellow Marines safety. My daughter also does us
proud as she is in the JROTC program in high school. I work second shift
at a local hospital as a MRI tech. I love my job except for the fact
that I miss watching TAGS when it comes on in the evening. Sometimes my
sister will call me at work as she is watching TAGS with a trivia
question thinking she will stump me. Usually I have the answer for her.
Now that the seasons are coming out on dvd, I can watch the shows
anytime. I have been a big fan of TAGS for it seems like forever. I
could watch it all day and still laugh some of the antics of Barney,
Andy, Floyd and of course Ernst T. I love going to Mayberry Days in Mt.
Airy. This past Sept. I took my daughter and I actually believe she
enjoyed it also. I look forward to receiving The Digest.

I don't really know how short "short is but I'll try to keep this
brief. I'm from a small town originally and pretty much grew up with
the Andy Griffith (I hope I spelled that right) Show. Over time as I've
grown, some interests have come and gone. But most things have really
stuck with me. Interests in Mayberry and it's characters never really
Faded. I'll amit I like the b/w episodes more than I do the color.
Andy and Don had such a great chemistry both on the show and in real
life, the show never was really the same after Don left. Not for me
anyway, a vital componet was missing. I've other interests to be sure,
but interest in this show never waned. It's my belief that IF
something's good enough, you never outgrow it. In today's "new age" I
personally don't care if the show's 30,40, or even 100 yrs old quality
is still quality

My hubby and I attended Mayberry In The Midwest a few years ago. While waiting
for the Saturday event to begin, I noticed that Ms. Carson had stepped out a
side door for a breath of air. I told my hubby that I was going to try and
meet her, since she was one of my TAGS favorites. I walked over and ask a
policeman, who was "checking the doorknobs" to ask her if I could meet her. He
did, and she motioned me over to her. She started off with "Hi Doll" and then
I told her I was from Charleston, West Virginia too. Well, she was thrilled
about that, and for a good ten minutes we chatted about our home town, and
discovered that her folks who were teachers, knew some of my family! I ask for
a picture with her. She chuckled and said I don't like close-ups anymore, but
"since your a Charleston Girl I'll do it". Before I knew what was happening she
threw her arms around me and gave me the biggest hug! What a "doll"!! I love
that picture! She really was a terrific lady!

Yes, I remember that episode--a good one, and well done. Some of the photos
that Jean offered on her web site were from that episode.
I was very sad to learn of Jean's death. I never had the opportunity to meet
her. If memory serves, I believe she was scheduled to appear at the first
Mayberry in the Midwest (which I attended) but had to withdraw due to illness,
so I missed seeing her. I did send her a card and note shortly after news of
her stroke was posted on the digest. After reading Kathryn's article on Jean
on the Christian Activities web site, I am heartened to know that I will one
day have the opportunity to meet Jean in a much better place!

Hey to "Hello Doll" Fans,
I too was saddened to hear of Ms. Carson's passing. She was such a sweet
lady and treated her fans with much courtesy. We attended a couple of her
autograph signings. One in particular I remember is when I had several (plus)
items that I would have loved for her to sign but while standing in line
waiting
my turn I was going through them trying to decide which ones I most wanted
autographed. I felt it was an imposition to have her sign them all. Well
before
I knew it I was up next and she said "Hello Doll", and reached out to take
all of my items. I told her there were too many items so she could just sign
the ones I had on top of the stack. She said "Oh Doll I'll sign them all if
you
take my picture with him." (Nodding at Frank, my husband) She had such a
great sense of humor. We did get most of those items signed but I held some
of
them back anyway because I thought it impolite to take that much of her
time.
The picture we took of her and Frank is a sweet reminder of her. (They
didn't
"play jail" or anything (Smile)

Oh how sad to think that the lovely Jean Carson has left us. I had the honor
and privilege of meeting Miss Carson at Mayberry in the Midwest a couple of
years ago and found her to be a lovely and charming lady. She took the time to
talk with many of us and like all of the Mayberry stars she was overwhelmed at
how much we all loved her. I am so grateful to Curt & Karen Bell and all of
the lovely people of New Castle Indiana that made it possible for us to meet
her. Thank you Allan for sharing your memories of this lovely lady and her
sweet ways with all of us. She will always hold a special place in our hearts.
With a tear in my eye at the passing of one of our beloved TAGS
