Members,

When e-mail arrives, I hear my friend Jean Carson greeting me with "Hello
Doll". I have this on my computer at work and I get the funniest looks from
people who are in my office when I get messages.

When I turn the computer on, the TAGS theme plays. When I turn it off, Andy
says, "Ohhhhh, now you have really done it."

I once had a wav on my voice mail message for my cell phone that was Barney
answering the phone. It went something like this..."Mayberry sheriff's office,
town head quarters, Andy Taylor sheriff, Deputy Barney Fife speaking...hello."

I took out the laughter at the end of it and it was perfect...

And when I make a mistake on my computer, Barney says, "Do realize you've
committed a 785...a false alarm?"

Them Timers is Tricky it a great site for wav files from the show.

I can think of several lady drivers throughout the history of Mayberry.
Here are a few I thought of besides the ones that Paul mentioned.

Thelma Lou did sit behind the wheel and "technically" drove Barney's first
car. After it broke down, Andy, Opie, Gomer, and Aunt Bee were pushing the
car while Barney sat in the passenger seat and Thelma Lou "drove" it.

In the episode, "Helen's Past" doesn't Mrs. Pendleton drive? It seems to me
she and Goober were having a conversation at the filling station when Goober
told Mrs. Pendleton about Helen. I can't remember for sure if Mrs.
Pendleton was in a car or if she was just walking. Which is it, Paul?

And we can't forget about Lydia Crosswaithe. (Lydia..it means native of
Lydia) Anyway, although we never see Lydia drive, we know she did because
she had bad tires.

Of course Daphne and Skippy both drove.

Lee Drake, the blonde attorney from Raleigh drove to Mayberry.

Don't forget Barney's mother. Remember during episode 2 (The Manhunt)
Barney sets up a road block then stops and frisks everyone. Among those
frisked were Mayor Pike and Barney's mother. Again, we don't see her drive
but she's out of the car about to be frisked and we don't see anyone else
behind the wheel.

It may have already been mentioned, although we don't actually see her
drive, Miss Peggy's daddy bought her a new car so I think we can assume she
drove.

There's also Melissa (Gladys) Stevens whom Barney gives an official police
escort to the post office across the street. In the end, she thinks
Barney's just a squirt.

I'm sure there are probably others but right now I have to take the bucket
off my head and get ready for work.

"Mayberry says thanks and happy motoring."-----Barney

Hello Fellow Mayberrians,
I'm not an expert at the computer so I was wanting to know how do you get
the wave files that you all are talking about with the TAGS voices? Thanks

Thanks everyone for your answers about Lady drivers. You are all great
trained noticers. And you proved once again that I am inept without your
help about putting together lists. Ellie, Charlene, and Mrs. Lesch go on
the list ...I guess also the lady in the Epilog of "Barney buys a car",
because she comes in as a car owner trying to sell hers. Did we miss any
others? (Kim pointed out earlier that Thelma Lou steered Barney's disabled
car..but Gomer had to drive her to the Dentist)

>>>(did you ever notice that every single "Darling" episode involves a
potential marriage of one of their family members?)<<<

Yes Paul I have noticed that and once immortalized that thought in a
limerick back when we were doing Limericks.

The once was a family named Dar-Ling
One of 'em always had a marryin' thing
Briscoe was a bit crusty
The boys kinda dusty
But boy could they all play and sing!!

I love it. Who said it? (All right. Maybe I'm not that Mayberry line
literate, but I'm not afraid to show my failings and ask.)

"We can certainly learn a lot from these
folks; never ceases to amaze me."

Once upon a time, a long time ago, I studied a theory of literature that said
great art, literature, drama, etc. had to appeal to the audience for which it
was written and then still speak to people years, centuries later. I read the
above words from Alis Whitis and remembered that theory. Now high-falluntin
artists and intellectuals might look down on TAGS, but I can't help but wonder
if in some time a long time from now people may see TAGS episodes and ...
Well, you can take it from there.

that English major thing creeping in.

This is in response to the question of lady drivers on TAGS. I just watched
an episode which TV Land aired tonight, 04/17/04, titled, "The Banjo-Playing
Deputy." Jerry Van Dyke played a guest part on this episode as a fill-in for
Barney after a carnival act he was working for had closed and moved on to
Charlotte.

Andy had asked Jerry (character name) to walk to the school crossing to help
the children cross when school let out. He had asked Mrs. Clariman (a
character I do not remember from any other episode) to move her illegally
parked car. When she argued the fact, he was going to issue her a ticket.
when she argued the ticket, Jerry said, "They're fair. Their only $2.00.
I've got a little extra if you can't pay it." At this point Andy walks up and
just asks Mrs. Clariman if she would move her car. We do not actually see her
move the car. However, she does reach into her purse for the keys and then
walks off-camera.

Yep, it's true Barney; while riding my motor-sickle, if I hold my tongue up
against the roof of my mouth I can't pronounce the letter 'S'.

I also can't keep the bugs out!

Maybe if I just had a sidecar or one of them nifty WW-I memorial plaques.
