It is sad for all of us Mayberryites over Monday's passing of Earle Hagen, composer of the theme music for The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., Mayberry R.F.D., and many other TV shows. I had the privilege with three other Mayberry fans -- Mike Creech, Joel Rasmussen and Randy Shield -- of meeting Earle Hagen at his home in Rancho Mirage in 2002. He was such a gracious host, and even took us all for brunch at the country club in his community. We all had the opportunity to visit him at his home and even hold the Emmy he won for scoring the music for the I Spy television series starring Bill Cosby and Robert Culp. Every time I hear the TAGS opening music, I'll think of Earle Hagen, the original TAGS whistler.
