A similar thing happened around here (the Ozarks) a number of years ago. Someone in McDonald County, Missouri found an old bond certificate that appeared to be valuable, and the next thing you know people starting hunting around and finding them everywhere -- tucked into their old family bibles, up in their attics, all over the place. The story even made Reader's Digest, under the title "Trouble Right Here in McDonald County." I don't know the exact issue, but maybe Mrs. Armbruster or somebody else at the lie-bary could look it up. Seems like it was around 1980. Seems to me Frank Myers' bond must have been worth SOMETHING, even if only to a collector of Civil War documents. And I'll bet the folks on Antiques Roadshow would have something to say about a personal letter autographed by Jefferson Davis! Paul Mulik >>>A local lady (not from somewhere's else) claims to have a 147 year old >>>promissory note, taken out by the city against a business of her great >>>grand-father's business. It sold military supplies to defend the city >>>against Union troops during the Civil War. The note stipulates that the >>>store is owed $299.58, plus 8% annual interest upon presentation and she's >>>presenting it. ...Harriet, the chicken thief _______________________________________________ WBMUTBB mailing list [email protected] http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
