Season Three-was perhaps Andy's busiest in the "romance" department.
First there is Peggy McMillan. Opie become jealous of all the time Andy spends with her. They skips rocks, do fun things, but he worries about her being rich. Floyd assumes a new name on the mailbox when she comes over to cook for Andy. The romance lasted just four episodes, and ends with Barney trying to fix Andy up on the rebound, first with Lydia Crosswaite (no-go on that one) and then with Fun Girl Daphne. Andy then meets old flame, Sharon Despain at the HS reunion, sparks reignite, but go out just as fast. Charlene Darling has a crush on Andy in her first visit, but he has no interest. Late in the season he meets Opie's teacher Helen Crump. A couple episodes later Barney and Thelma Lou try to fix him up with her (after failing to interest him in a dozen other wife candidates) and Barney thinks it won't work, but the romance begins. Highlights: Peggy cooking/caring for him, and nursing his black eye. Fleeting thoughts of a romance rekindled with Sharon and a nice kiss, Meeting Helen. Rough spots: Getting the wrong idea when Peggy's old friend Don stops by. Barney tries to fix his up with Lydia Crosswaite. Barney's Girls, Season Three--Two-timing gets him in trouble In Andy and the New Mayor, Barney is calling Juanita in the beginning. Later Barney puts on some fancy perfume for Juanita. In the end, Barney takes some signs from Andy to post at the Duck pond, and he is frustrated because he want to take Juanita there Hey isn't that his Thelma Lou's spot? Also in "The Great Fillin Station Robbery" Barney calls Juanita twice, once doing his famous Cock-a-doodle doo. Thelma Lou fans point out that in that same episode when he accidently takes his own picture, and Gomer mentions he should give a copy to Thelma Lou. Barney thinks he may rekindle Andy's friendship with Fun Girl Daphne, and he uses his part-time gal Skippy to set things up. Thelma Lou appears is five episodes. She is by Barney's side when his car falls apart. She unwittingly creates a humorous love triangle between herself, Barney and Opie . She conspires with Barney to help Andy find a wife Highlights: Skipping rocks with Thelma Lou, Andy and Peggy. A couple episodes where Barney and Thelma Lou are actually the steady couple, while Andy is still looking. Rough spots: Barney's two-timing with Thelma Lou and Juanita. Barney's frustration when Opie has his crush on Thelma Lou.
