Season Five-Andy almost blows it a few times Andy and Helen remain an item as she appears in at least 11 episodes! When Barney gives Andy and Helen a gift of a day, and Goober messes up a phone message, another rumored marriage must be debunked. When Barney misinterprets one of Opie's, three wishes, yet another rumored marriage is debunked. When Andy considers taking a job out of town, he mention's he'll "send for her' (what is she a mail-order bride??) Cousin Gloria unwittingly gets in between Andy and Helen for one episode. Fun Girl Daphne returns for another run at Andy, almost breaking Andy and Helen up for good. Family members try to set him up with a widow from Saint Charles named Racine, but Andy doesn't fall for the bread truck.
Highlights: Alone time with Helen between Barney's interruptions on their special day together. A tender moment when Opie has a crush on Helen, and Andy has to tell him that Helen is his girl. The make-up kiss with Helen after the Gloria mistake. Rough spots: Helen insulted that he referred to her as a "third party" Helen feels uncomfortable when Gloria joins A&H on a date. Helen refers to Andy as "the Great Sheriff Taylor" on "Three wishes for Opie" when, for a third time, their upcoming marriage is rumored by Barney Season Five- Thelma Lou makes six appearances again. She supports Barney through the "Physical" the Lucky Letter, and his run for Sheriff. Barney and Thelma Lou have their biggest blow-up when he is uptight about the chain letter. When he asks her out, she is busy gluing covers back on hymnbooks with Edgar Coleman. Barney jumps to conclusions, and things appear to be over. He even calls up Juanita at the Diner. Another near break-up occurs when the Fun Girls return, and Barney ends up babysitting them at the jail, while Andy entertains Helen and Thelma Lou at the Diner. He gets caught with lipstick on his face. Another big blow-up occurs in "Man in the Middle" when Barney tells Andy that Thelma Lou is upset about his cheap dates. After an innocent sympathetic comment by Andy, Barney turns around and causes another break-up with Thelma Lou. Barney is such a veteran ladies man, that he tries to teach Goober a thing or two, since he keeps showing up and ruining dates. In "Andy and Helen have their Day", Barney mentions having a date with Juanita, where he took her to Morelli's and then over to her house for a little "TV". Highlights: Make-up kissing after their fights is always good. The last mention of Thelma Lou is regarding her birthday, and a gift Barney bought for her. Ironically she is not shown in "The Luck of Newton Monroe". He speaks of her, and speaks to her on the phone. Rough spots: They almost break up over Barney's cheap dates then they almost break up over a misunderstanding when Barney says to Andy maybe they weren't made for each other. Barney's gift of a fur comes apart. Footnote-Barney and Thelma Lou only lasted a little over four seasons, but during that time they had double dates with Any and Ellie, Andy and Mary (#2), Andy and Peggy, an attempted double with Andy and Lydia, and, of course Andy and Helen. That's a pair for the ages! The Untrained Voice _______________________________________________ WBMUTBB mailing list [email protected] http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
