--->I never learn why it was Andy Grifith by early 60s dropped his famous hillbilly backwoods image made famous in No Time For Sergants. When the Mayberry Series debuted in 1960 the image was intact then in a year he settled in without the accent and the crackerbarrell--->
Andy Griffith has said that once Don Knotts joined the show it took about a half season to realize that Knotts should play the comic foil and Andy the straight man. That's not how the series started, but it didn't take long for all to realize that's how it should go. I don't think anyone would argue with that. Of course, there were other comic foils later(Floyd, Gomer, Goober, etc). So Ange started as the comedian but changed into the sage sheriff...I agree, later on in the color episodes, Ange seemed to get more irritable. My theory, and this is just me, is after that many seasons the shine had worn off and it became more of a job, and that tended to show onscreen. ************************************************************************* The information contained in this communication is confidential, is intended only for the use of the recipient named above, and may be legally privileged.
