Andy and Barney left the town limits many times to fight crime so he must of been the county sheriff. The town must of not had a police department. We only hear of state police not locals. So they served it too. But they did answer to the Mayor not the County Commissioners. Was it also called Mayberry County? They worked out of the courthouse not town hall. A different way of doing things but isn't that what Mayberry was about?
