One important point some of us in this discussion seem to be forgetting (and I
don't mean to be a wet blanket, or obtuse, my wife hates it when I'm obtuse) is
it was a fictional show. Sometimes they had to change things around to make
the story work. I read an interview with Andy Griffith a few years ago where
he said he never really liked the mayor character because a county sheriff
would not answer to a town mayor. I think that's one reason the part was
dropped. At one point Andy's job as justice of the peace was also dropped. As
has been said before, when these people started this great show almost 50 years
ago, they had no idea folks like us would be discussing it in the year 2008.
In other words, they didn't know we would get the TAGS compelsion. "You find
compelsion nuts all over".
BTW, thanks to whoever put out the link for the Brad Paisley video. Not a big
fan of Brad's but loved the video with Andy, especially the last scene where he
was sitting on the bench in all white. Brought a tear to my eye.
