Saw Mayor Stoner on an episode of Father Knows Best. He was playing a friend of a friend. He was sounding more like his Chester Character from the Gunsmoke radio show tho. I like him better that way. He was always a little uptight as the Mayberry Mayor Parley Baer was a beloved character actor all through radio and television. On radio he also originated the role of Eb in the short-lived 1950 radio comedy "Granby's Green Acres," which inspired the TV version 15 years later. Eb was portrayed as being a little older than the one on the TV show. Baer often told stories about how he rushed across town, taking taxis throughout New York to appear on four live radio shows in a single day. Up until his death he came to many old time radio conventions and unlike his Mayor Stoner persona, he was said to be very nice and very warm and loved to tell stories. When he died, the two TV roles that got mentioned were Mayberry mayor, and Ozzie & Harriet's next door neighbor. But I'll always remember him as the bureaucrat whose life keeps getting upset, perhaps even ruined, on "The Addams Family." He was such a perfect foil for them.
