I am always curious as to why Andy went through so many girlfriends. Even the ones who were on for several episodes, excluding Helen, seemed to just no longer be on the show all of a sudden. No reason as to why or when they left, they were just forgotten instead of written out of the show. I always thought that was so strange, because we grow fond to so many of them and think this one would be great for Andy.... then they are gone. My favorite was always Peggy. She seemed like such a great fit for Andy. Despite whatever insecurities he may have had due to previous relationships, she was the only one I remember that actually chased after Andy while he was avoiding her. That shows a true attraction. All this despite her being raised in a priviliged environment. She was down to earth, beautiful, smart, educated, got along well with Opie and probably had a pretty nice dowery. What more could he want?

I'm not sure that meant he was shy or just not comfortable with each 'girlfriend' actress brought onto the show. Opie's teacher Helen Crump was a good fit for both the show and for Andy's romantic interest, according to the book. You know, Barney tried everything and finally gave up.
