In an episode of The Real McCoys first aired in November 1959, Howard McNear appears as a junk dealer and appears to be wearing the very same barber's coat as in TAGS. Since McCoys was filmed on the 40 acres lot, this may be the first wearing of the smock. He could have used it in the Beaver episode, but I doubt it since it was a different studio.
