>>>There were no inconsistencies on the show. This is a situation
comedy, in
which the players can play different parts under different names if the
show is
writ that way. Like, Howard was not always Howard. Ernest T was not
always
Ernest T. Mrs. Mendlebright was also Big Maude, as those situations
called for
them to be that. ......I do hope that flipped the light switch and
everyone can now see the
difference!...Welford the Camera nuttttt......<<<

Just some polite commentary, my friend.
I think you meant Big Maude and Elenora Poultice.
as to your opening statement... I can agree with you that actors playing
different roles is not an inconsistency. BUT,
To say there are no inconsistencies..is a bit of a stretch.
Throw out name changes like Goober Beasley to Goober Pyle and you still
have things like Gomer knowing nothing about cars, and then being an
expert on cars. Barney able to sing, not able to sing worth a lick.
Ernest T Bass writing a note wrapped about a brick..but not able to read
or write. Those are character inconsistencies. Then you have Physical
inconsistencies such as the Taylor House Guest room which has been
brought up..or the Mayor having an office over the courthouse when there
is clearly no second floor...and there are more.

Is it a problem? Absolutely not. It just gives us junior Deputy Trained
Noticers things to notice that changed from one episode to the next.
Some of the books out there about the Andy Griffith Show even list them.
(so it's gotta be fact, right Barney?)

My 249th favorite Episode (notice I didn't break no rule) is "Helen The
Authoress" because it made Andy look a little silly, and there was not
much comedy.

I was watching a short High School Homecoming Parade last night.
Someone asked when it would pass by, and an answer given was "about five
minutes after it starts". I couldn't resist the Mayberry quote "You
figure they'll do a block a minute?" (from the episode where the
Governor visits and Warren shoots the cannon, I think).

The Untrained Voice.
