Herbie Faye who died in 1980 was a product of vaudeville a second banana who
made it on Sergent Bilko with good friend Phil SIlvers as did our beloved
Allan Melvin .he did light comedys Disney films and scores of tv show in the
50s -his death . He told me Andy Griffith could be funny and blue when a
joke was called upon but what a decent gentleman appreciated of character
actors stooges like him looking for a few days work. He was humble. He was
an everyday actor in other words he wasnt typed to be just the bad shifty
guy .light comedy was his forte. he appreciated the time i took by asking me
"You remember me?" You better believe i do as any good film tv buff would.
Aunt Bees Painter. in The Warden. THis time even i cant help you. i never
saw his face before. Jerry Colanna is an american treasure musician actor
comedian . handlebar mustache his trademark but oh my....his 1966 stroke
left him in a bad way. he tried to rejoin his old pal Bob hope on USO tours
like he had since 1942 but the signature on the 8by 10 he sent was
heartbreakening.I didnt expect even that. the last 20 years of his life was
rough. They didnt print part 2 from late last night. Maybe no room or
computer gliche who knows. ill try to resubmit it.in event it doesnt run
with this ill lightly touch upon what i wrote. Check out Dont Miss Out on a
Good Bet 1967. check out the trainmaster giving the ticket to the crook who
swindled Andy Floyd Goober Aunt Bee Helen. .In whats got to be only a
thankless 5 second yes 5 second bit scene with one line an incidental line ,
its the old man ,character DIck Ryan that caught my eye in 1967 that
prompted me to contact Benny Rubin Jack Bennys best msn at the formers
wedding. Benny told me that was him. it was his last acting chore. i knew
him from East side Kids movies like Mr Wiseguy 1942. i often wondered did he
know TAGS would be his last acting job?He wasnt on par with CHarles Laughton
Claude Rains Donald Crisp as top character supporting stars .he was one of
hundreds . But i make it my huisness to appreciate contributions made be it
cameos walk ons bit parts full blown parts. You know how he signed his
autograph on the photo this forgotton actor sent me? "THanks Tom for
remembering me." No Dick thank you for the pleasure you and every gifted
underated character supporting star gave us fans. Job well done. A fine way
to go out, doing a bit on TAGS> HE can be proud.Youll never he forgotton.and
in event my message part 2 isnt published a tip,of the hat sir to an actor
ive never ever seen mentioned in book form or messages post. if im wrong i
stand corrected but im daring to say the following. There is a fine
gentleman who did many episodes of TAGS all black and white having died in
1965 a few months before the show went color. Oh what a crying shame he
didnt live long enough to go into color. He had no given name. little more
than an atmospher actor still he had lines, a laugh a cackle ,beat up old
hat sweater, at 65 youd see him in Citizens Arrest the Cave In Gomers
Houseguest.Joe Hamilton is the name. Ill bet my show biz collection easily
had this delightful actor lived longer he would had gone into color
episides. he was a a player on the show 1961-65 having died suddenly. Mark
my words next to Mr. Schwamp hed be the mysterious TAGS player. But we have
his name. How about a tip of the hat to this gentleman? He was on the payroll.
In closing this is only time Im completely steering away from any
association of TAGS> I cant get confirmation on this. ill poised this as a
question. if i get no responees in 24 hours. ill tell you his name..I got to
ask someone. its the talk all over in trivia circles. IF you got a dvd
player please put it on pause and tell me if THATS HIM>Casablanca from his
tablle.Pause the 1942, the beginning with Sam playing the piano first time
around. look over his shoulder at the middle aged actor bit player at the
table in uniform enjoying the music. Is it HIM? BIg BIG name in radio films
tv, under contract to Warner Bros at that time. You know who Im referring
to.My goodness it looks like him indeed. Zoom in and freeze the scene. Tell
me what everyone is talking about . 5 will get you 10 you already heard
about this "rumor." I like your thoughts. ill tell you in 24 hrs if you cant
guess but im 99% sure you someone out there heard about this Inside Joke."
TEll me.From Col Tims own mouth, God Bless.Tom Kessel. Again the film is
Casablanca the American classic of 1942. I couldnt believe it til i saw the
scene on pauze freeze and zoomed in. Is it him?????
