I am 35 years old and have been a fan of the Andy Griffith Show all of
my life. My all time favorite character on the show is Barney Fife. To

I grew up in a small town in East Central Miss. near the Alabama line.
I have been a public school administrator for over 30 years and teacher
doctoral students at MS State Univ. part time. I have one daughter.
My story concerning TAGS is the story of many. At the age of 10 in 1960
I began watching the TAGS with my father, mother and sister. We all
could relate to every character because we all knew someone like that in
our very small town. It was the highlight of each week to watch the show
with my family. As I grew older I never stopped watching. My father pass
away in 1997 and I still can remember episodes that we shared together.
I have been an autograph collector for over 40 years. One of my prize
pieces, even more than the Beatles autograph I got in 1966, is the
Return to Mayberry Cast 8 x 10 authenically autographed by all the cast
living at that time.
I have even purchase a several props from the original show. My latest
purchase was the hotel bell, from episode 57, 2nd season, "Barney and
Andy in the Big City.(March 1961). Arte Johnson was the working the
hotel desk as a young actor. I have the picture of Andy ringing the bell
and the prop company's COA. If you remember Barney sign the hotel
register Barney Fife M.D.
(Mayberry Deputy, HA) I also have a small vase picture in Helen Crumps
home the shelve behind her front door and a vase from the dinning room
of the Taylor home.
I treasure all of these items because they make me feel a little closer
to the show.
A few years ago I went to LA and visited the old lot where the Mayberry
once stood. So sad, now it is an industrial park. I still could imagine
Main St. Mayberry, the courthouse, floyd's barber shop, Weaver's Dept.
Store, the church, the hotel, the drug store just makes me smile.
As with Mayberry, my small town has died. THe only remaining business
open is the bank and mayor's office. We all know that time marching on
but the precious memories of family of which I consider TAGS as part of
will never die.
