I’d like to thank Welford for his unsolicited endorsement of my candidacy
for Mayor of Mayberry. I think it’s time I come out of retirement and
return to serving the fine citizens of our fair city. I’ll only make one
stump speech this campaign season and this is it. I’ll have no disparaging
words for my worthy opponent. I’ll simply remind you of the many
accomplishments of my previous administration. You’ll recall that one of
Mayberry’s greatest economic development achievements came during my time in
office. That’s right, a film crew from Hollywood came right into town and
made a movie about us. And you’ll also remember that it was me who tried to
warn everyone about wearing those trick-or-treat outfits. It was under my
direction that a group of Mayberry’s civic leaders got together and helped
turn Frank Meyers’ house into a real show place. Even Sheriff Taylor
admitted that I was the one spreading the paint on thicker than anyone. And
finally, it was me who recognized the importance of having a fine deputy
like Barney Fife who made it possible for us all to sleep soundly in our
beds at night.

You’re all invited to my one campaign event, a pie supper at my headquarters
election eve. The evening’s entertainment will be provided by a former Miss
Mayberry runner-up, my lovely daughter Juanita. She’s promised to sing
everyone’s favorite number, “Flow Gently Sweet Afton.” Come and enjoy the
festivities and share in the fun. Remember, a vote for Pike is a vote
for…well…Pike!

Mayor Pike
