Oh how I yearn for the peace and quiet of our beloved Mayberry. Seems there is no where to go without being confronted with noise. I went to the dentist this past week and sat in the waiting room with a radio playing rock music in the background. As soon as I sat in the dentist chair the hygienist handed me a set of headphones for the radio. I went to the hospital to volunteer and in every waiting room a TV was on spouting all kinds of noise. I went down to the hospital cafeteria for lunch and wouldn't you know that someone just had to put money in the juke box and I ate with a very loud country song blasting away. On Sunday I went to church to do some meditation and reflection only to be welcomed by our Contemporary Worship Team ( I call them the Happy Clappers) with their drums beating and guitars amplified throughout the sanctuary. I stopped to do some grocery shopping on the way home and was once again welcomed by loud music from the speakers all over the store and constant announcements for price checks. We went out to eat at our Texas Roadhouse and the noise was so loud we could not even converse with our friends at the other side of the table. No wonder each day I slip in a TAGS DVD and watch Andy and Aunt Bee sitting on their porch of a warm supper night. A week ago I went with my brother up to his 26 acres of woodland where I was sure I could enjoy some real peace and quiet. Not that was too much to ask for because no sooner were we there when out came the two big ATV's and up and down the trails they went. I wish we had a little gas station with a bench and a pop machine where I could walk to each night and sit and visit with my friends.
