Your writing about Herb Ellis' playing those wonderful hot licks on the guitar ...that miracle guitar that got at least 3 sounds plus swapping between being electric or acoustic......, reminded me of something. A few years ago, I caught the end of Fred Sanford(Sandford & Son) on TV Land while waiting for another show; The whole family was sitting around singing carols and a white man was playing the guitar; he had his back and sometimes his side face to the camera. IT stirred something inside of me and I instantly thought of Jim Linsey (sp?) playing that magical multi-sound-guitar. The man made it sound like warm honey ; I waited for the credits; sure enough, IT was Ellis, so I DID get to see who was the guitar genius behind Jim Linsey's guitar playing; (That HOT electric sound out of that acoustic ALWAYS gets my husband and he always says something....it is a running family joke!)
