In the Case of the Punch in the Nose, Goober is called in as at witness of the original event and it was stated that he was just a boy (sitting in the barbershop) when it happened. This is sort of a strange twist because he is one of the few characters that was an "unseen character" (talked about by Gomer) before he became a real character.
Good memory above by Aunt Bee of Orlando. The last reference I remember to Howard was his first job at Mayberry Transfer Company. I still say my thing to do in Mayberry would be to train with Sarah and be her backup operator. I work for a phone company and I am not as good a tool man as Mr. McBeevee to be a pole or tree man. So I'd work the switchboard for a while and learn all kinds of stuff. When Sarah came back on duty, I would just sit on a bench in town and wait for Mr. Schwamp to come by and smile, or Jud and Chester to tell stories about Barney or Floyd to discuss Presidential history.
