Fans of Alfred Hitchcock will remember a very emotional scene in which Que
Sera, Sera is whistled in The Man Who Knew Too Much (the 1956 version), but
surely the most famous whistled tune from the movies must be Colonel Bogey from
The Bridge on the River Kwai.  Many years ago, a high school band director told
me the reason that tune was whistled by the soldiers was so the producers could
get around copyright laws, which apparently applied to music that was PLAYED in
movies, or SUNG in movies, but the law didn't say anything about WHISTLING.
Whether that's true or not I don't know, but it makes a good story.

BTW, the correct title of the theme song of The Andy Griffith Show is The Andy
Griffith Theme.  It did not come to be called The Fishin' Hole until later,
after Everett Sloane (Jubal-Jubal-Jubal Foster) wrote lyrics for Earle Hagen's
tune.
