Ron, you sure hit the nail on the head. I too can remember my old telephone number; 2 & 1/2 rings and a party line to boot. What an upgrade it was when we finally got a "modern" phone, a private line and our phone number became (River Side) RV9-2249. Every time I see Andy use the "crank phone" on the wall in the kitchen, leaning into the mouthpiece and speaking loudly; HELLO, I go right back in time to just such a memory. We had our Sarah then too and she really did cut in on a call now and then. I sure remember my Aunt Carrie, who was on the same party line, talking for hours and hours with her sister. I'll bet the subject quite often was 'wonder what causes you're feet to fall asleep'. Taking us back in time to our little piece of Mayberry is one of the many reasons I love the show.
