Although I know its just a show , this example is way out of line for good character for a Mayberryian and Andy especially. A friend would not have done what Andy did.
Andy was to take Elly to the county picnic but lost his rights to take her when he got the big head thinking that just because Elly accepted his invite too easily. Elly was probably in pain waiting for Andy to ask her out with all his If'ing . He was taking too long to ask. Because she helped him with the question he began thinking she was after him for more than a company picnic. Well this is an example of Andys characteristic shortcoming. """ IFing """" . He does it in many episodes. Hey good question. What episodes does Andy do his IF'ing? Back to the story. Andy lost his right to take Elly out, so Aunt Bee pushes him to ask for forgiveness but the problem is she already has a date with Barney. Aunt Bee suggest Andy use his authority to sway Barney to give up his date with Elly and it works. That kind of erks me as being a bit underhanded and treating a friend as though hes a bit dumb. ( Did Barney say he was on the force for 1.5 years without an arrest? ) He knows Barneys dedication to law enforcement duties and uses that against Barney to get what he wants; even though he didnt have the right to have a date with Elly to begin with. Elly could have married Barney and that would have been a good thing since Barney left Thelma ( later episodes ), and Andy married Helen who I never cared much for. Well this is my venting for today. I know... its just a show. Holland Lexington NC Just 1 hour from Mayberry _________________________________________________________________ Express your personality in color!
