Speaking of scenes that make you tear up, the one that gets me every time is towards the end of "Opie's Job" (a colored episode from season 6). If you remember, Opie competes with Billy Crenshaw to earn the job at the grocery store, but when he finds out the Billy needs the job to help his family pay bills, Opie pretends to want to play baseball so Mr. Doakes would fire him. The scene is on Andy's front porch after Opie is fired and Andy blasts into him about how he'd never been fired before in his life and insinuating he was ashamed of Opie for getting fired after he had worked so hard to get the job. Then after Opie explained to him why he got fired, Andy apologized to Opie and said something like, "You know when I was bragging to Floyd and Goober about how proud I was of you, well, that's not quite true......... You're a man." That clutches me every time.
