REGARDING THE "SHERMAN TANK" THAT ANDY STOPS ON THE HIGHWAY OUTSIDE OF MAYBERRY (SEASON 4, EPISODE 111). IT'S ACTUALLY NOT A TANK AT ALL, IT'S A 1943 M-3 WHITE HALFTRACK WITH A FAKE GUN TURRET. THE SAME ONE THAT APPEARED IN SEVERAL EPISODES OF "COMBAT" AS A GERMAN HALFTRACK. (BOY DO I NEED TO GET A LIFE...)

It also had our old friend, Bob Denver (a.k.a. Dud Wash) as a minor character. The biggest surprise of all was that it featured Jim "Gomer Pyle" Nabors in an uncredited role.? Jim obviously was using his regular voice, which was much lower that Gomer's.? He had a beard and glasses, but the face matched.? I checked on imdb.com and it was indeed him.? This must have been filmed after he first appeared on TAGS in the "Man in a Hurry" episode in January 1963.? It was really strange hearing him speak in a "non-Gomer" voice.? All this time I assumed that was the way he actually talked!? Shazam!!! You should check this out the next time it roles around! Ms. Leasch said it took her 4 hours from Mount Pilot, because she doesn't drive over 25 mph, and gives the machine a 10 minute rest every 30 minutes. Now, according to my machines here at the shop, and I'm sure they're not as good as the ones at the bank, but according to my calculations, that would make it 75 miles from Mt. Pilot to Mayberry.
