Ted's question regarding scenes not featuring main characters got me to
thinking (sans bucket) about a question I had asked a while back regarding
favorite black and white episodes in which Barney did not appear. Mine, by the
way, are "A Family Visit" and "Goober Takes A Car Apart", but I digress. I
have a question along this line that maybe someone can answer. Exactly WHY was
Barney not in some episodes? Did Don Knotts' contract specify that he only be
required to do a certain number of episodes per season? Or maybe was it an
opportunity to give other characters more screen time? Or was he really on
vacation with his mother?

"I remember that about your mother."
