The crew of TAGS really knew their stuff when it came to the "haunted house". If you look at the aerial shots of 40 acres you'll see that Aunt Pittypat's house is directly across from a seldom-used side street. Opie and his friend were approaching the house from that direction. BTW, the other house seen near the "haunted house" is the same one that was the town eyesore that was supposedly on the outskirts of town in the episode about the Civil War-era bond. It's amazing how every residence in Mayberry was really only five or six house facades.
