I seem to remember reading somewhere that Ralph Baker was a person whom Andy
once worked with, during his stint as an English teacher.  I think some of the
members of the Esquire Club were also named for teachers Andy once knew.

Another character named for a real person was Phil Sunkel, the trumpeter in
Freddie Fleet's band.  Jim Fritzell added the name to the script in honor of
the real life Phil Sunkel, who was a friend of Aneta Corsaut's (for them that
don't know, Aneta, who played Miss Crump, was Jim's girlfriend).  He thought
the real Phil Sunkel would get a kick out of it, but for some reason he got mad
and threatened to sue.
