I was talking to a friend through e-mail yesterday and our conversation got on
the
subject of Andy Griffith, hey, can I help it if I got a one-track mind.
Anyway he finally asked me if Mayberry was a made up name or if it was a real
town. I thought on that awhile and this morning I e-mailed him the following

Yes, my friend, there is a Mayberry. Those who don't believe can only believe
in that which appears real before there eyes and at their touch.
Yes, oh yes, there is a Mayberry. It exists in this uncertain world as much as
love
for fellowman and generosity and affection exists.
Oh my, I wonder how dismal this world would be for us if there were no
Mayberry. It would be as though there are no Wally's gas stations, Floyd's
barbershops, no pageants, or rides in Barney's car. It would be as dismal as if
there were no Andy Griffiths or Don
Knotts or Frances Baviers
There would be no joy, no laughter, no music or romance to make tolerable this
intolerable world. There would be no enjoyment except we enjoy that which is in
our physical presence.
Not believe in Mayberry! Why we may as well not believe in the planets of this
universe
or the stars of which our eyes cannot see.
Only our love for that which once was can see beyond that veil that blankets
the realness and the existance of Mayberry. Is there a Mayberry, you ask ? Was
there ever a Mayberry
you wonder.
Ah yes, a thousand times yes. In all the world for those of us who believe,
nothing is more real.
No Mayberry ! Thank God, there is. And in our hearts it will exist forever,
Even a thousand
years from now Mayberry will bring joy, and peace, and happiness to all those
who believe.
