"Malcolm Merriweather's Merrymakers of Merry Old England, Arkansas USA" honored area educators (public, private, and home) with a Mayberry themed reception on Sunday afternoon, August 30, 2009 at the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church of England, Arkansas. Area merchants donated door prizes. The program featured a viewing of Episode 103, "Opie's Ill-Gotten Gain," an application of encouragement by chapter leader and church pastor Rick Hyde, and the sixteenth round of the Mayberry Trivia Game. The women won the round and possession of the coveted "A Feud Is A Feud" trophy and now lead the men nine wins to six with one draw. Popcorn and soda pop were enjoyed by all. Here's the encouragement to the educators after viewing the episode . Remember the time when Opie brought home his only report card with all "A's"? He had been struggling with all of his classes (especially arithmetic) and was so proud when Miss Crump handed him his report card. He rushed home to show his Pa and Aunt Bee. The problem arose when Miss Crump told him the next day that she gave him the wrong report card . one filled with grades much lower, some failing. When Opie got home that day, Andy had bought him a brand new bicycle as a reward. And, Andy found great joy in talking about the high marks over and over . to Opie, Aunt Bee, and all would listen. Andy proclaimed to Opie, "Did you ever know of a father who had more reason to be proud?" Andy discovered that his proudest moment was not the report card filled with "A's" but when Opie told him the whole story. Andy: "You are my son and I'm proud just for that. You do your best and if you do that, that's all I'll ever ask of you. OK?" Opie: "OK, Pa." That's exactly what our Heavenly Fathers asks of us: "His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord' " (Matthew 5:21). Striving for the best report card possible is a worthy goal. However, high marks and good grades become even better when coupled with high spirits and good attitudes.
