"Wasn't the actor who bought the Mayberry cannon the same actor who was Ward Cleaver in the very first pilot episode of "Leave it to Beaver"? I could be wrong on this but for some reason this comes to mind."
Ken: I think you're correct on this one. The actor named Max Showalter was signed to 20th Century Fox in the late 1940's. His name was later changed to one more acceptable, Casey Adams. After appearing as Ward Cleaver in the Leave It To Beaver pilot, he was replaced by Hugh Beaumont before the series started filming. He did appear on a single episode of TAGS in 1961. P.S.
