One of my favorite episodes of TAGS is "A Date for Gomer". I have always
enjoyed seeing two lonely delightful people like Gomer and Mary Grace come
together for an evening of true innocent romance. Mary Grace Canfield did
such a wonderful portrayal as Mary Grace, Thelma Lou's nice cousin? Wouldn't
it have been great if she could have remained in Mayberry with Thelma Lou
where she and Gomer could have nurtured their budding romance. For some
reason it just didn't work out for them. Perhaps Gomer's socks were too
porous after all. In any event Mary Grace left and I think she must have
been devastated. Why else would she move to Hootverville and change her
name to Ralph Monroe and then go into the carpentry business with her
bumbling brother.
