While waiting for Playhouse 90 to come in once its released in November, i did today start playing The Best of Studio One out on dvd now. It had a dozen shows from the 50s hit dramatic series. First up was !2 Angry Men the teleplay later made famous in the film . this 1954 tv production had two alumni from TAGS . One of the jurors was our own Paul Hartman aka Emmett Clark in a fine substantial dramatic role and who else is playing one of the jurors but Lee Phillips actor turned tv director for 60 TAGS episodes among others. For years i tried to see what he looked like once he changed careers mid streamed . I havent seen him since the early 60s tho he acted up til 1977 . but the shows he did and they were few are not out yet in dvd. my only recollection of him is here and in the 1957 blockbuster film Peyton Place. A promising up and coming good looking leading man of the 50s , something sadly went wrong and he disappeared as an actor and became a director, youll see him name penned easily on countless episodes of TAGS. He didnt disappear altogether but he went behind the camera. if any of you fans can tell me where on the internet i might find a picture of Mr. Phillips in later years prior to his death in 1999 please post your findings here asap. id love to see if the years treated him well when i last saw him on film. it goes without saying Andy Griffith and surviving cast members will have only good things to say of this fine splendid actor.
