I couldn't sleep last night and started flipping channels. I love tvland, but
never cared for Roseanne. Anyway, I came across an episode of The Golden Girls,
and who should I see on a date with Sophia but our old friend Charlie Lee. He
must have either sold out the Chinese restaurant to Jack or else simply
retired, because there he was in Miami. At least he didn't have to go back to
Pittsburgh. Sophia was having trouble using her chopstix and I was waiting for
him to tell her she was 'off her noodle'.
I didn't know that Keye Luke had played Charlie Chan's number one son. I never
saw many of those movies, but I vaguely remember seeing a couple of them on
television when I was very young. Luke left us in 1991 after a long successful
career as a gifted character actor. What I remember most about him was his
laugh. Throwing back his head and delivering a very heartfelt laugh. He was
only on TAGS that once, but he was another in a long list of Mayberry
characters that we all cherish.
